The redone Honda CR-V rival will be based on GM's D2XX platform.

The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox has been spied testing near GM's Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan, USA by Anthony Herta of Youth Autos. Currently in its second generation, the Chevrolet Equinox will move to its third generation in 2017 model year. The test mule is heavily camouflaged but we can see some features like dual, trapezoidal tailpipes similar to the ones seen on the current model, a gradually sloping roofline and roof rails.

The 2017 model year will mark Chevrolet Equinox' entry into its third generation.

The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox will be based on GM's D2XX platform that underpins the 2016 Chevrolet Volt and 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. It is reported that the third generation Chevrolet Equinox will be smaller than now. The current U.S.-spec Equinox is 187.80 in long, 72.50 in wide and 66.30 in tall, and has a wheelbase of 112.50 in. Being smaller in size, it will create space for a new mid-size crossover, which is said to be a short-wheelbase version of the Chevrolet Traverse.

The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, reports say, will likely be offered in right-hand drive version too, as a replacement of the Chevrolet Captiva/Holden Captiva. The Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, and up to 10 airbags are expected on the incoming model.

The 2017 Equinox will likely be offered with three four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engines - a 1.4-liter, a 1.5-liter, and a 2.0-liter unit. A 6-speed automatic transmission should be standard and an 8-speed automatic transmission should be available at the top of the range.

Expect the car to be unwrapped in 2016.
