Set to make its world premiere at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show in mid-January, the 2016 Mercedes E Class represents an evolutionary step up from the outgoing model, with respect to exterior, interior and powertrain.

The company had already detailed the interior design and safety features, which combines design cues from its two brothers: the Mercedes C Class and S Class, whilst being as feature packed as the latter.

As for engine lineup, reports firmly believe that it will be offered with a range of 2.0-liter four cylinder petrol and diesel engines, all new 3.0-liter in-line six cylinder petrol and diesel units and a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 option in the top-end AMG variant. A 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox will be standard across the whole range, while the AMG E 63 could be offered with a 4MATIC AWD system.

Given the high popularity of the Mercedes E Class product line in India, it's quite certain that Mercedes India will introduce the next generation model in the country in late-2016. Initially, the E Class is expected to arrive through the CBU route, with local assembly starting in 2017.
