VW India's immediate agenda is to launch to the Beetle and the compact sedan, which is announced to debut at the Auto Expo.

However, VW India has no plans of introducing the Golf range, and the model spotted is likely to be brought to India for global testing, international benchmarking or to test a component manufactured by an Indian vendor. It should also be mentioned that the C-Segment non-luxury hatchback market is non-existent in India.

The MkVII Golf is built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, which underpins the Skoda Octavia, Seat Leon and the Audi A3. The variant spotted is the Golf TSI Bluemotion that is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 115 PS (114 hp) and 200 Nm of torque. Paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the direct injection engine in the TSI BlueMotion version consumes 4.3 litres per 100 km, which converts to a fuel economy figure of 23.26 km/l.

The models in the pipeline for VW India include the VW Beetle, the second generation VW Tiguan and the 2015 VW Passat. The most anticipated model however is a compact sedan that was recently confirmed by VW India to debut at the Auto Expo 2016.
