Codenamed Tata X104, the exterior design was previewed by the Tata Nexon Concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. Reports suggest that Tata will offer a range of customizable options such as contrasting colour combinations for roof and body along with body kits for better personalization.

It is, reportedly, based on a slightly revised version of the Tata Bolt/Zest X1 platform. Engine options are likely to include a 1.2-litre petrol turbocharged Revotron engine and a 1.3-litre Multijet engine from Fiat. Along with a 5-speed manual, the latter could also be offered with an F-Tronic AMT gearbox similar to the unit featured in the Tata Zest.
