Available in the range-topping SZ5 variant only, the TCSS option for the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is £1350 (INR 1.35 lakhs) more than the equivalent model with a manual gearbox. Suzuki hopes that the S-Cross diesel automatic will be an attractive mile-cruncher for company car buyers who favour the ease of an automatic transmission.

The 1.6-liter DDiS engine is identical to the one found in the Maruti S-Cross sold in India. Sourced from Fiat, it produces 120 PS and 320 Nm of torque, and is available with a 6-speed manual or the new TCSS option. An ALLGRIP AWD system is fitted as standard on the UK-spec model. For the Indian market, the S-Cross is offered purely with 2WD.

Given the demand for diesel automatic compact SUVs in the Indian market, Maruti could consider introducing the TCSS option for the DDiS 320 variant. If it does come into fruition, it will rival the Hyundai Creta 1.6 AT, the Mahindra Scorpio AT and the upcoming Renault Duster facelift which is reported to get an automatic gearbox.
