New E Class draws design influence from bigger S Class.
The 2016 Mercedes E Class has been spotted next to its bigger brother, the current Mercedes S Class, giving us a first look at how the two luxury heavyweights compare.
To an average Joe, the two cars look largely similar to each other, save for the S Class's bigger dimensions. Upon closer look, the 2016 E Class has a distinctive pair of triangular LED taillamps, slightly different C-Pillar design, more upright front grille with dual slats (possibly an AMG body kit), and a new design for the Multibeam LED headlamps.
Although not seen in the spyshots here, the upper section of the interior is similar to the S Class, featuring two wide displays for the driver and infotainment services and a flowing wood trim with multiple small HVAC vents. The lower section, which includes the center console, appears to be inspired by the smaller C Class.
Reports suggest that the new E Class will match its level of sophistication with that of the S Class, offering next generation versions of current safety features like Active Brake Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, PRE-SAFE Plus, beltbag (airbag in the belt), and Attention Assist. It will also debut new features like Remote Parking Pilot that enables the car to self-park and a “Car-to-X” communication system, which could filter down to other models in the future.
The 2016 Mercedes E Class will debut at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show (2016 NAIAS) in January 2016. An Indian launch could take place towards the end of 2016, wherein initial ‘launch units’ of the new E Class are brought through the CBU route, while locally assembled models are introduced at a later time.
