“Distinctive” Toyota C-HR crossover will trade space for style – Report

Riza Rizvi, Hopelessly in love with everything on four wheels. Interested in cars since my formative years, with an unhealthy affinity for exotics and tuners. Fondness for the open road with high-octane machinery for company!

Production C-HR to debut at 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

Toyota showcased the radical C-HR Concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car, which Toyota confirmed will be shown in production form at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, will have a stylish and fun-to-drive character, reports TopGear.

The production variant C-HR will preserve the design and styling of the concept car.

This information was given to the magazine by Hiro Koba who is the chief engineer of production cars at Toyota. He said that Toyota was a “late entrant into the crossover segment” and among the many offerings they have to have a product that is “distinctive” and stands out from the crowd. He elucidated that customers in this segment “Want a crossover for style. They want to show individuality. They mostly travel alone or with one passenger, and don’t have much stuff with them. So I traded rear room and visibility, and luggage space, for style.”

Taking this into context we can assume that the crossover will not be too toned-down from the concept in terms of styling. In the words of Koba, “If we do that too much we can’t reach the target customers.” He also mentioned that the vehicle will be based on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) – which should make it stiff and light – and will have “precise steering and supple suspension.”

The C-HR will be a five-seater based on Toyota’s New Global Architecture, competing with the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur.

With regards to the powertrain TopGear reports that it will incorporate a next-generation hybrid system that will have a more natural response to the accelerator than the current generation. This is in addition to conventional engined variants.
