Facelifted Mercedes GL with a new nameplate.
Ahead of its motor show debut in Los Angeles, a couple of press images of the Mercedes GLS has leaked online, courtesy of World Scoop. It only reveals the exterior changes of the GLS, which are minor.
It gets new headlights with Multibeam LED lighting and DRLs, revised grille, updated taillight graphics and re-profiled bumpers with a new diffuser, but the overall design of the flagship SUV will continue unchanged.
Inside, updates will be seen in the COMAND infotainment system, which will feature a larger freestanding display navigated via a fingertip-based controller that debuted on the new C Class. Other possible changes include re-designed buttons, instrument cluster and multifunction steering wheel.
Under the hood, the Mercedes GLS is likely to replace the 7-speed 7G-TRONIC gearbox for a more advanced 9-speed 9G-TRONIC unit from the Mercedes GLE, while the engines will see an overall improvement in power and torque figures.
As for the Indian launch, Mercedes could introduce the GLS in mid-2016. Like the outgoing Mercedes GL, the GLS will locally assembled at the company’s factory in Chakan, Pune.
