Expected to launch around the same time next year.

A search on Zauba.com reveals that two units of the 7-seat Maruti Wagon R MPV (codenamed Maruti ‘YJC’) have been imported into India from Japan for R&D purposes. Further, the description reveals one prototype is running on the 1,197 cc petrol engine (K-Series petrol engine), and the other uses a 1,248 cc diesel engine (DDiS diesel engine).

The prototype measures 3,700 mm in length, just 101 mm longer than the standard Wagon R.

According to the website, the overall length of the 7-seat Wagon R stands at 3,700 mm. To put the number in perspective, the regular Wagon R measures 3,599 mm in length, whereas the Datsun Go+, which will be the main rival for the 7-seat Wagon R, comes in at 3,995 mm in length.

According to a previous report, the YJC will be introduced in India sometime in September 2016. Maruti has already asked its vendors to start supplying parts, and testing is expected to commence shortly.

Apart from catering to the domestic demand, the YJC would also target the fleet/taxi market and radio cab operators.
