Mahindra XUV500 sales crosses 1.5 lakh units - IAB Report

Mahindra has announced that cumulative sales of the Mahindra XUV500 has crossed the 1.5 lakh mark which includes exports. The 7-seat crossover was launched four years ago, in September 2011, and days after the launch, unprecedented demand forced Mahindra to stop bookings.

"This achievement reaffirms the XUV500's immense popularity as it continues to set new standards in its category", said Pravin Shah, the President and Chief Executive of the Automotive division of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. He added, "With the launch of the New Age XUV500 in May 2015 we have further pushed the boundaries on the fronts of technology, capability and brand which has resonated well with our customers", mentioning the launch of the XUV500 facelift.

The company's first monocoque SUV was designed in-house at the company's research and development facility in Chennai, Mahindra Research Valley (MRV). It was sold for about three and a half years without changes to the body, until the current (facelift) version was launched in May 2015 in 6 variants: W4, W6, W8, W8 AWD, W10 and W10 AWD.

The Mahindra XUV500 competes with the Tata Aria, Tata Safari Storme, and top-end variants of Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.
