6-speed MT on the 1.5L petrol is a first in India.

Indian Autos Blog can report that the Honda BR-V, when launched in India, will be powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol engine and a 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine. Honda Cars India says there are no plans to bring a 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel engine.

The BR-V will first launch in Indonesia early next year.

Further, the BR-V with the 1.5-liter petrol engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission even for the Indian market, Indian Autos Blog was told by the company. A 6-speed manual will also be offered on the diesel variant. When asked about the introduction of a CVT on the petrol variant, Honda Cars India said it remained "positive" on launching an automatic variant of the BR-V.

According to Honda, the 6-speed manual gearbox for the petrol variant, and the CVT, are newly developed units which find their place on the BR-V. The petrol engine is likely to output 118 hp and 145 Nm of torque, whereas the diesel would be tuned to 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque.
