Mild-hybrid variants will pair a 15-20 kW electric motor to the IC engine.

Autobild has released very realistic renderings of the 2017 Mercedes E Class (W213), which incorporates most of the details revealed by test prototypes and Mercedes themselves. It is expected to make its world debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show in January.

Along with the rendering, the report states that nearly all petrol and diesel variants of the W213 will feature a mild-hybrid tech, which will pair a 15-20 kW electric motor to the IC engine. Given that the motor’s output is small, it’s main focus would be to reduce load on the engine and provide short power bursts. Should key markets demand zero-emission range of 50 – 100 km,  Mercedes will dial up the electric motor’s output to between 75 and 120 kW.

The 2017 Mercedes E-Class will offer a new generation of 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines (codename – OM654) alongside existing four-cylinder petrol engines. Higher variants will, reportedly, come with an all new range of 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engines, and a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 in the range-topping variant. The new generation diesel engines is rumored to emit less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

The exterior of the 2017 Mercedes E Class will fall in-line with the company’s latest design language; losing the sharp and angular styling of the current model for a simpler design with less sculpted features. It highlights the middle-ground position between the 2015 Mercedes C Class and 2014 Mercedes S Class.

Previous reports have suggested that the 2017 Mercedes E Class will be 55 mm longer than the outgoing model, with shorter overhangs to accommodate the stretched wheelbase in a contained overall length.

The new E Class will debut Mercedes’ Remote Parking Pilot that enables the car to self-park, a “Car-to-X” communication system, as well offer next generation versions of current safety features like Active Brake Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, PRE-SAFE Plus, beltbag (airbag in the belt), and Attention Assist.
