Expected to launch next year, along with sister brand the VW Passat.

Team BHP member, Pritish Suryawanshi, snapped the 2016 Skoda Superb on the Aurangabad Shendra Road near Skoda's assembly plant recently. Spotted with regular 5-spoke alloy wheels, this is not the range-topping L&K variant which was caught on test in Pune recently.

A search on import-export website Zauba.com reveals that Skoda Auto India has imported three units of the new Superb for testing and homologation purposes. Two of these prototypes are fitted with a 1.8-liter TSI engine, whereas a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine does duty on the third prototype. Both engines would be offered for the Indian market with a DSG transmission and a front-wheel drive layout.

Based on the new MQB platform, the 2016 Superb is lighter by 75 kg, and shares over 50 percent of its components with the new VW Passat, which will also launch in India next year. It promises better interior space than the current Superb thanks to an increase of 80 mm in wheelbase and 47 mm in width.

As with the current model, the Superb will be assembled at Skoda Auto India's Aurangabad plant by way of CKD kits, when it is launched next year. Being the flagship product for Skoda, the sedan gets features like LED daytime running lights, Bi-Xenon headlights, electric adjustment for the front seats, tri-zone climate control, parking assist, and an 8-inch touchscreen MirrorLink system.
