Debuts the CMF architecture in the Indian market.

Renault India will launch its new small car, the Kwid, on September 24, 2015, with prices expected in the range of INR 3-4 lakhs, ex-Showroom. The Kwid, which made its premiere in May this year, is based on the CMF-A platform, a first for Renault in India.

The Kwid is powered by a 0.8L three-cylinder engine.

The Kwid targets entry-level small cars like the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. It is powered by a 799 cc three-cylinder petrol engine capable of 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. With this setup, the Kwid claims a class-leading fuel economy of 25.17 km/l. Helping the small car achieve this economy is the light 660 kg kerb weight.

The Kwid will be introduced in four variants - Std, RxE, RxL and RxT. The base variant misses out on AC, while the RxE is devoid of power steering. On the top-end RxT, Renault will offer a driver-side airbag as an optional extra. Features such as ABS and EBD are not available on the Kwid.

Later in its lifecycle, the Kwid will receive an automated manual transmission (AMT) and a more powerful 1.0-liter engine, to take on the likes of the Maruti Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1L.
