Debuts the CMF architecture in the Indian market.
Renault India will launch its new small car, the Kwid, on September 24, 2015, with prices expected in the range of INR 3-4 lakhs, ex-Showroom. The Kwid, which made its premiere in May this year, is based on the CMF-A platform, a first for Renault in India.
The Kwid targets entry-level small cars like the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. It is powered by a 799 cc three-cylinder petrol engine capable of 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. With this setup, the Kwid claims a class-leading fuel economy of 25.17 km/l. Helping the small car achieve this economy is the light 660 kg kerb weight.
The Kwid will be introduced in four variants – Std, RxE, RxL and RxT. The base variant misses out on AC, while the RxE is devoid of power steering. On the top-end RxT, Renault will offer a driver-side airbag as an optional extra. Features such as ABS and EBD are not available on the Kwid.
