The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has released test results for the Toyota Hilux, Daihatsu Ayla, Datsun Go and Toyota Agya. The latest round of results primarily target Indonesian consumers, and hence, the Datsun Go used for testing was an Indonesian-made model with a driver-side airbag.

The Go and the Go+ are now available with an optional driver-side airbag in India.

The Go with an airbag managed to score 2/5 stars in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) with a score of 6.82/16. It also achieved 2/5 stars in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) with a 46 percent compliance. However, the hatchback failed the side impact crash test, whereas other cars mentioned above passed.

Speaking briefly about the other cars, the Daihatsu Ayla with dual airbags managed 4/5 as did the Toyota Agya, whereas the Toyota Hilux scored 5/5.

The Datsun Go made headlines in November last year when it scored 0/5 stars when tested by the Global NCAP. In a series of events post that, Nissan was asked to withdraw the car from the market, though media reports speculated that the company was in the process of strengthening the Go's body shell, for a re-test.

A statement released by the Global NCAP stated that it would be "pointless" to fit airbags on the Go owing to its weak body structure.

The Go and the Go+ in the Indian market are now available with an optional driver-side airbag on the top-end T variant. Made at the alliance plant in Chennai, the cars are exported to markets like Nepal and South Africa.
