Debuts at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show tomorrow.

The first official design sketches of the next generation 2016 VW Tiguan have been released, ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show tomorrow. Volkswagen is likely to preview the SUV at the Volkswagen Group Night today to select media.

The 2016 Tiguan is inspired by the VW Cross Coupe Concept, and would be 80 kg lighter than the current gen.

With design influence coming from the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept, the car would be based on the VW MQB Platform resulting in a weight loss of about 80 kg. The new model is expected to be longer than its predecessor to offer more interior volume.

It is reported that the 2017 VW Tiguan gets a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine with 125 PS in the entry level variant, whereas the fully loaded variant would get the 2.0-liter TDI (diesel) with an output of 240 PS. These variants would either pair to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch automatic. A plug-in hybrid variant (VW Tiguan GTE) is also expected.

Inferring from spyshots, the Tiguan is planted on 18 inch diamond cut alloy rims, and comes with a chrome kit that runs along the sides, along the window line, and on the roof rails. A large panoramic sun roof, a shark fin antenna, horizontal LED taillamps, roof spoiler, a chrome line on the bumper, and twin chrome exhaust tips were also observed on the first unofficial images.
