The 2016 Suzuki Baleno hatchback has been spotted in the wild without any camouflage ahead of its world debut at the 2015 IAA in Frankfurt this month.
Previewed by the Suzuki iK-2 concept from the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the 2016 Suzuki Baleno will be slotted above the Suzuki Swift, and put into a segment that comprises of well-established rivals like the VW Golf, Kia cee’d, Hyundai i30 and Peugeot 308.
It is based on Suzuki’s next-gen platform that has been optimized for fuel efficiency and dynamic performance. Under the hood, it is confirmed to pack a 1.0-liter Boosterjet, while a 1.25-liter K-Series petrol and 1.3-liter DDiS diesel unit will also be available, reportedly. The SHVS system, which is featured in the new Maruti Ciaz, will also be offered for better fuel mileage.
The Suzuki Baleno also gives a clear look at the final design of its Indian counterpart, the Maruti YRA, which is expected to launch in the country by the end of this year. It will set up a new segment of premium hatchback that slots above B-segment offerings like the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.
