Honda claims that the 2016 Honda Civic “was the most ambitious remake of the Civic” they have ever done. As seen in leaked patent images and renders, the design of the new Civic is an evolutionary step forward. The 2016 Civic Sedan measures nearly 2 inches wider and 1 inch lower, with a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase, compared to the previous model.

Distinctive features include Honda’s Flying H front end with a bold chrome grille, sleek LED headlamps (optional), a sporty set of bumpers, redesigned C-pillars and LED boomerang taillights. The roofline follows a fastback approach, and flows smoothly into the rear end, which appears to sit tall.

Inside, the 2016 Civic drops the split-dashboard layout for a conventional design. The instrument cluster now rests on the single dashboard, which features a large display for the tachometer, digital speedometer, and fuel efficiency data.

The center console houses a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with touch sensitive buttons on the side. The new infotainment now supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, Button count in the new Civic is low, lending a clean look to the interior design. The only knobs and buttons seen are for the HVAC climate control and seat heaters, while a large cubbyhole is placed beneath it.

Under the hood is an all new 1.5-liter Turbo VTEC engine paired to a “unique” CVT gearbox, which makes its debut in the U.S. Although Honda haven’t revealed the power figures yet, the JDM-spec Honda Jade RS with the same engine produces 150 PS and 203 Nm of torque.

Lower trim levels of the 2016 Honda Civic will get the 2.0-liter, 16-valve i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine, which is claimed to be the “most powerful base engine ever offered on Civic”. Tranmission options include a 6-speed manual or continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

As for the Indian market, Honda Cars India has no plans of introducing the 2016 Honda Civic in the country, thus leaving a gap between the popular Honda City and the upcoming 2016 Honda Accord.
