Royal Enfield's adventure tourer Himalayan has been spied testing by Team BHP user bblost.
The Himalayan looks like a tourer that is equally at home on the asphalt as it on off-road. From the picture it is clear that the bike has a single tube chassis that is seen on other RE models. The rear gets a new subframe that can carry a pillion rider or saddle bags, indispensable for long journeys.
The front gets classic RE looks with round headlight borrowed from the Continental GT among other parts such as fuel tank, dual discs and instrument cluster. Proper adventure tourer detailing like a big windscreen (on previous spyshots), upswept exhaust, raised handlebars are also visible.
Off-road capability of the bike can be assessed by the monoshock suspension (first for an RE) and high rear seat position coupled with the front fork gaiters that point to the extensive travel they are designed for.
The engine is reported to be a single cylinder, 410 cc, oil-cooled, four-stroke mill making almost 29 bhp of peak power and 40 Nm of torque. Transmission delivering the motive power to the road will likely be a 6-speed unit. A 750 cc twin-cylinder engine for the motorcycle has also been reported.
The Himalayan will create a niche in India when it is launched. There are presently no adventure tourer bikes in the 400 cc category. There are the Pulsar AS twins that operate in the 150-200 cc segment and then there are adventure tourers from Triumph and Ducati that form the premium segment above 800 cc.

The Himalayan would likely be positioned above the Continental GT in the RE lineup and cost upwards of Rs 2.5 lakh. Expect the Himalayan to be listed on the market in late 2015 or early 2016.
