Based on a new platform.
The 2016 Honda Civic is due for launch in the US by early 2016, following its world premiere later this year. The sedan has been spotted testing a number of times and leaked patent images as well as spy shots have given away information about its interior and exterior.
Based on all the available info, AutoEsporte has rendered the 2016 Honda Civic sedan.
The fascia is characterized by the new ‘Flying H’ grille that has a chunky single chrome slat. It is flanked on either side by what looks like Xenon headlights that also have DRLs housed within the assembly.
There are no outstanding design characteristics on the side profile apart from the new alloys, redesigned C-pillar and subtle turn indicators on the front wheel arches. The rear will get the distinctive boomerang-shaped tail lights.
The 2016 Civic is based on a new global platform that will spawn coupe, hatch (confirmed by the patents) and perhaps a wagon body styles and will also serve as the design inspiration for the new CR-V that is due in 2017. A new 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged i-VTEC engine will be powering the new Civic. This unit is already found in the JDM-spec Honda Jade RS where it produces 148 bhp/203 Nm. A 2.0-liter engine would be offered as a second option to customers in the USA, according to a leaked order guide, which also revealed that a CVT or a six-speed manual transmission would come on both engines.
For the European market, Honda would use the 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel unit, as found in the existing lineup.
Adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and collision mitigation braking would come into the 2016 Civic, as part of the Honda Sensing safety package. A rear AC vent, heated rear seat, and electric parking brake were also revealed by spyshots.
Honda is unlikely to bring the new Civic to India considering the weak demand in the market for premium mid-size sedans.
