In a recent interview, Gerard Detourbet, Alliance Global Vice President, Alliance A-Segment Development Unit, said that the Renault Kwid could be a good match for the Iranian market, which is expected to show signs of resurgence following the country's nuclear deal.

The Kwid is based on the modern CMF-A alliance platform.

Speaking to Reuters, Detourbet said that the car was shown to people, and that it had evinced interest. However, the executive added that it would take more than a month or two to finalize on the models for Iran, and whether they would be locally assembled or not.

The Kwid was revealed in Chennai, India, in May this year, with Renault having announced plans to launch it in the festive season period this year. The car maker confirmed the small car with a 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with class-leading fuel efficiency. A diesel variant was ruled out by Detourbet.

The Kwid, which will compete with the likes of the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon in the Indian market, will also receive the convenience of an automated manual transmission (AMT). Further, a more powerful 1.0-liter variant of the small car will be introduced within 6-8 months from its Indian launch, a report claims.
