Renault Kwid to launch in 2016 with 1L 77 hp engine - Brazil

Will get ABS as a standard fitment in Brazil.

According to Brazilian media reports, the Renault Kwid will be introduced in 2016 as Renault Brazil's all-new entry-level model, replacing the Clio which is currently priced from 34,470 Reals (INR 6.57 lakhs).

The Kwid for India is announced to have a localization level of 98 percent.

Unveiled in May this year in Chennai, India, the Kwid is expected to have its domestic market launch during the festive season period (October-November) with prices in the region of INR 3-4 lakhs.

There will be plenty of market specific changes for the Kwid in Brazil however. Starting with the engine, the report states that the Kwid will use a 1.0-liter three-cylinder 77 hp engine, which will be able to run on petrol and ethanol. Next up, the Kwid for the Brazilian market will offer ABS as a standard feature, whereas for the Indian model, Renault announced that a driver-side airbag will be provided as an option.

An AMT is also expected for the Kwid in India.

Renault announced few technical specifications of the Kwid for the Indian market. The hatchback measures 3.68 meters in length and 1.58 meters in width, and gets an all-new 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine for the Indian market with class-leading fuel efficiency.

The Kwid for India is also expected with an automated manual transmission, and a more powerful 1.0-liter engine 6-8 months after the launch of the standard 800 cc model.
