Maruti will launch the S-Cross on August 5, 2015, according to a report on Overdrive. The S-Cross will be sold through Maruti’s Nexa range of premium dealerships, which will be inaugurated today in New Delhi.
The S-Cross will come with a choice of two diesel engines, both sourced from Fiat. Starting the range is a 1.3-liter ‘DDiS 200’ engine which produces 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine, which is highly localized in India, has an efficiency of 23.65 km/l.
The 1.6-liter ‘DDiS 320’ engine, which is fully imported into India develops 120 PS and 320 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, with an ARAI-rated efficiency of 22.7 km/l.
A total of 8 variants will be introduced on the S-Cross, five on the DDiS 200 and three on the DDiS 320. All variants will get a driver-side airbag as standard. The top-end ‘Alpha’ trim will get front and rear disc brakes, co-driver airbag, reverse camera and HID headlights in addition.
The S-Cross will be positioned in the compact SUV segment which sees the likes of the recently launched Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the Mahindra Scorpio. It will be offered in a range of five colors.
