India is the first market to use this nameplate.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) will launch its much anticipated compact SUV, the Creta, today in New Delhi. The launch follows after the preview of the Creta was held at HMIL's Chennai plant last month, and initial technical specifications were announced.

The Creta has already received over 10,000 bookings.

With three engine options in its arsenal, the Creta will rival the likes of the Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio in terms of price. HMIL says that this segment is the fastest growing segment in the Indian market, and reports point out that the company is poised to sell around 5,000 units of the Creta in the domestic market each month.

A 1.6-liter CRDi VGT diesel engine delivers 128 PS and 259 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Also available is a 1.4-liter CRDi diesel rated at 90 PS and 220 Nm of torque. For buyers on the lookout for a petrol variant, HMIL will offer its 1.6-liter Dual VTVT engine with a 6-speed manual transmission as well.
