The European media expect the SQ7 to pack a V8 diesel engine with as much as 400 bhp on tap.

According to reports, the SQ7 will not feature a high-revving petrol engine, rather, it will be equipped with a V8 TDI diesel engine. Expected to be a 4.2-liter unit, this will give the SQ7 a reported power output of 400 bhp, enough to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. The SQ7 could also hit a top-speed near the 300 km/h mark.

While the SQ7 will be positioned as a performance SUV, its competitors from Mercedes, BMW and Land Rover rely on V8 petrol engines, either turbocharged or supercharged (in case of Land Rover). Audi could show the SQ7 for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show (which starts on September 15, 2015, for the press).

For the Indian market, the regular 2015 Q7 is reported to launch towards the festive season period this year (October-November), initially as a CBU. The SQ7 could be added to the lineup next year, to rival the likes of the Mercedes GL63 AMG, BMW X5M and the Range Rover Sport V8.
