2016 Toyota Fortuner variants and features leaked - Report

Will be available in 4 different variants.

Ahead of its confirmed debut on July 17 in Thailand, Headlight Mag have managed to obtain the variants and features of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner. Compared to the outgoing model, the next generation model will be an all new vehicle from the ground-up, featuring an updated ladder-frame platform, new design, premium interior, and a new range of engines.

The diesel variants consist of the 2.4G 4x2 6MT, 2.4V 4x2 6AT, 2.8V 4x2 6AT, 2.8V 4x4 6AT, while the only petrol offering is the 2.7V 4x2 6AT.

The Toyota Fortuner will offer 2 diesel engines and one petrol unit spread across 4 different variants for the Thai market. The diesel variants consist of the 2.4G 4x2 6MT, 2.4V 4x2 6AT, 2.8V 4x2 6AT, 2.8V 4x4 6AT, while the only petrol offering is the 2.7V 4x2 6AT.

Judging by the variant list, the top-of-the line 2.8 V model will only get a 4x4 drive system as optional, while most of the variants feature a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The new GD diesel lineup represent a 10 percent better fuel efficiency in the Toyota Hilux Revo.

The new ‘GD’ diesel engine family packs a 2.4-liter four-cylinder mill delivering 150 hp/343 Nm of torque, and a more powerful 2.8-liter diesel engine in two power states: 177 hp/420 Nm and 177 hp/450 Nm of torque. The sole petrol offering is the 2.7-liter four-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine delivering 122 hp and 245 Nm of torque.

The publication has also revealed the standard features in the upcoming Fortuner. It will come equipped with Smart Key System with Keyless Entry, Start/Stop Button, knee airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control system, Hill Assist Control, emergency light system. Another interesting detail divulged is that the dashboard panel will look different from the Hilux Revo.

For the Indian market, the next generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to arrive post March 2016. It will continue to be assembled at TKM's (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) plant in Bidadi, Karnataka. For better localization, the company will reportedly manufacture the GD engines at its upcoming engine manufacturing facility near Jigani, Karnataka.
