An LWB variant could also be added to the Chinese X1 range.

The BMW-Brilliance JV is currently testing the next generation BMW X1 in China, which could launch either by the end of this year or next year. A new set of spyshots reveal a barely-camouflaged test unit of the next BMW X1, which had already been revealed on June 3 globally.

Given the preference for long wheelbase models in China, the BMW X1 could also be available with a LWB variant, which is, according to older reports, 11 centimeters longer than the standard wheelbase model. Both models will be manufactured at the JV's plant in Shenyang.

Inside, it will feature a freestanding LCD Control Display running BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment system, a Head-up Display, and an instrument cluster with a display underneath. BMW has also improved the build quality and color options for the interior as well.

Based on the UKL FWD platform, the standard BMW X1 will offer a range of turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engines.

Both engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and higher variants will benefit from the xDrive AWD system.

The 2016 BMW X1 will make its public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, followed by a launch in the local market (Germany) in October. The Indian market could get the new X1 as early as the first half of 2016.
