10 things we know about the 2015 Honda Jazz launching today - IAB Report

The 2015 Honda Jazz will have its Indian market launch today, nearly a year-and-a-half after its Indian premiere at the 2014 Auto Expo. Here are the top 10 facts about the new Jazz.

1. Diesel engine:

India will be the first market to get a diesel-powered Honda Jazz. The engine in question is Honda's Earth Dreams 1.5-liter i-DTEC four-cylinder unit which produces 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

2. Petrol engine:

Adhering to the sub-4 meter regulations, the Honda Jazz petrol is powered by the 1.2-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine which is also seen on the Brio and Amaze. Power and torque outputs have been revised to 90 PS and 110 Nm for the Jazz though, which is a minor increase of 2 PS and 1 Nm over the Brio.

3. Petrol with CVT:

The petrol variant can also be had with a CVT gearbox, with paddle-shifters and 7 stepped ratios. In the premium hatchback segment, the Jazz and the Polo GT TSI will be the only cars to come with an automatic transmission.

4. Fuel efficiency figures:

The Jazz diesel returns a class-leading figure of 27.3 km/l, while the petrol MT is rated at 18.7 km/l, and the CVT at 19 km/l.

The variants, and variant-wise feature list were leaked prior to the launch. The Jazz will come in a total of 12 variants with 2 variants reserved exclusively for the CVT option.

6. No smart entry, rear AC vents:

Even the top-end VX trim of the Jazz will not offer a smart entry with an engine starter button, a front center armrest and rear AC vents. When asked, Honda officials said there were no plans to introduce these features on the car.

7. Bookings undertaken since last month:

As early as 16 June, dealers of Honda Cars India were accepting bookings for the new Jazz with a pre-payment of INR 51,000. Deliveries will be on a first-come basis naturally.

8. Manufactured in Rajasthan with high localization:

The new Jazz is manufactured solely at the Tapukara, Rajasthan, plant of Honda Cars India. Even export units are rolled out from this plant. The localization level on the new Jazz is above 90 percent.

9. Safety kit:

The top-end VX trim of the Jazz will get dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and a reverse camera. Since the discontinuation of the previous gen i20, there are no premium hatchbacks you can buy with side and curtain airbags in India.

10. Dealer shipments underway:

Dealer dispatch of the new Jazz is well underway, with over 2,300 units having been manufactured in June alone.
