2016 Mitsubishi Outlander spied, gets a diesel variant - Brazil

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander (facelift) was unveiled to the world at the 2015 New York Auto Show, followed by a reveal in Brazil. Customer deliveries of the new Outlander is expected to start this month in the country, and will finally be available with a diesel variant, as listed by the official Mitsubishi website.

The Outlander diesel variant is powered by 2.2-liter turbocharged engine producing 165 hp and 360 Nm of peak torque from 1,500-2,750 rpm.

The new variant is powered by 2.2-liter turbo diesel producing 165 hp and 360 Nm of peak torque from 1,500-2,750 rpm. It is paired to a six speed automatic transmission INVECS-II and a full-time electronic 4WD system, enabling it to do 0-100 km/h in 10 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 190 km/h.

The petrol variants are a base 2.0L variant featuring a 2.0-liter engine with 160 hp and 197 Nm of torque, and two GT variants packing a 3.0-liter V6 delivering 240 hp and 304 Nm of torque. The 2.0L variant is paired to a CVT gearbox (which has been retuned for better acceleration), while the two GT variants are mated to a six-speed INVECS-II automatic transmission.

The new Outlander's exterior is more up market thanks to the new “Dynamic Shield” X-shaped front bumper, which is part of Mitsubishi's new design language. The front end gets a generous helping of chrome and gloss black plastic, as well as new Xenon headlamps with LED DRLs, complimenting the premium look. The rear of the 2016 Outlander gets larger taillight enclosures with LED elements, and a new bumper.

Inside, the steering wheel, interior trim, and the audio and navigation display have undergone a redesign. A new windshield, rear door glass and increased sound-deadening material make the cabin quieter, Mitsubishi claims. It comes equipped with a dual-zone HVAC system, heated front seats, steering-mounted paddle shifters, a Mitsubishi infotainment system with GPS navigation, support for Bluetooth pairing, and audio streaming.

The 2.0L Mitsubishi Outlander is priced from BRL 114,990 (INR 23.03 lakhs), while the GT and GT Full Technology Pack cost BRL 141,990 (INR 28.44 lakhs) and BRL 151,990 (INR 30.44 lakhs). The 2.2-liter turbo diesel model will come with a price tag of BRL 173.990 (INR 34.85 lakhs).
