The brand is desperate to regain the luxury car leadership from Mercedes-Benz.
Speaking to CarAdvice Australia, BMW Australia CEO, Marc Heinrich Werner, has confirmed that the all-new 2016 BMW X1 which was unveiled just weeks ago, will be launched down under in October.
“We have started in our small car offensive in December last year with the launch of the 2 Series Active Tourer and we have the 2 Series convertible which we launched at the end of February, now in June it’s the all-new 1 series and in October this year it will be the all new X1 which will be fantastic,” he exclaimed.
BMW revealed the new X1 on June 3 and had said that the car would launch globally in October with two petrol and three diesel units, all of which are 2.0-liter four cylinder units with outputs ranging between 150 hp to 231 hp, linked to either a six-speed MT or an eight-speed ‘Steptronic’ AT, which offer up to 17 percent reduction in consumption and emissions.
The 2016 X1 also gets many upgraded technologies including an optional head-up display and a Driving Assistant Plus package that brings with it Active Cruise Control (with Stop & Go), Traffic Jam Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking. Full-LED headlights and Dynamic Damper Control are two other notable optional extras.
Based on the front wheel drive platform, the new model 53 mm taller, offers a 36 mm higher seating at the front, and 64 mm at the rear, an extra knee room of 37 mm and a 505-litre boot capacity which is 85 litres larger than that of its predecessor.
BMW India has not confirmed if the X1 is part of the 15 launches for the year, but given Australia is a RHD market and this type of specification is ready in October, it won’t be long before the model arrives in other markets which keep left. The 3 Series facelift is confirmed in this entourage and the 1 Series facelift is likely to be.
