When BMW unveiled the all-new second generation BMW X1 crossover, the press release had stated that it will be available in xLine, Sport Line and M Sport variants. BMW hadn't revealed what the M Sport package for the new X1 would look like, until today, courtesy of Bimmertoday.

Although there may never be an "X1 M" to compete with the Mercedes GLA 45 AMG, BMW will be offering an M Sport Package for the new X1, which injects a sense of aggression and dynamic character to the exterior and interior design; similar to a full-fledged M Division model. Up front, the 2016 BMW X1 M Sport gets a large BMW kidney grille with black slats (unlike the silver slats in the standard model), and larger air inlets in the lower fascia.

The M Sport package also adds body-colored bumpers, side skirts, wheel arches as well as a familiar set of 5-spoke 18/19-inch two-tone light-alloy wheels.

The car sits 10 mm lower to the ground, but does not have other mechanical upgrades.

Inside, changes are what an M enthusiast would expect from BMW. The package features the M leather steering wheel, special aluminum trim, sporty body hugging seats, and roof lining in anthracite. As with any M Sport package, there are many M badges all over the car, as seen on the steering wheel, gear knob, foot rest, and the exterior front wing.

The M Sport package also equips the X1 with 2-zone HVAC SYSTEM, PDC (Park Distance Control) at the rear, and speed control with braking function.

In terms of mechanical changes, it features the M Sport suspension which lowers the X1 by 10 millimeters, improving the dynamic stance of the new X1. Otherwise, the M Sport package can be added with any one of the many 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options, ranging from 150-231 hp output.
