Two prototypes of the 2016 Audi A4 snapped in Mumbai [Update]

Update - Shifting Gears has posted two images of the prototype of the 2016 Audi A4 testing on the Eastern Expressway in Mumbai. Audi has been testing cars in India even prior to the global debuts as the country offers a variety in temperature, road surface quality and altitude, and the dust, humidity and fuel quality torture tests the running gear and equipment. Previously Audi has tested and validated the Q7 and the TT in a similar manner.

Ahead of its global premiere, which will take place shortly before the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, two prototypes of the 2016 Audi A4 were snapped testing in Mumbai, India. Prior to the global reveal of its models, Audi tests its vehicles in India, as ex-Audi India Head, Mr. Michael Perschke, said the country's roads provide a good test location with varied weather and road surfaces.

The next gen Audi A4 is reported to have lost 100 kg over the current A4 thanks to its new MLB Evo platform, and a new 2.0-liter TFSI 190 hp engine. The 'B9' A4 will also come with an assortment of petrol, diesel and hybrid powerplants, with the range reportedly starting with a 1.4-liter TFSI and extending till a 3.0-liter TDI unit.

These engines will be paired to 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmissions, as the new A4 gives the Multitronic CVT a miss, favoring conventional cogs instead. Audi will also be introducing LED headlights and dynamic turn signals on the A4, a first for the model.

For the Indian market, the new A4 is expected to launch in early-2016 with 2.0-liter petrol and diesel engines. Audi India assembles the A4 at its Aurangabad facility, and this arrangement should continue for the B9 A4 as well.
