The Tata GenX Nano AMT has officially taken over the crown from the Maruti Alto K10 AMT as the 'most affordable automatic car' in the country. Below is a spec-sheet comparo of these cars:

Tata GenX Nano AMT vs Maruti Alto K10 AMT

Coming to their engines, the Alto obviously has the upper hand here, as it features a more advanced three-cylinder 1.0-liter K-Series engine, developing a healthy 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque. In comparison, the Nano AMT continues with its predecessor's 624 cc twin-cylinder unit, which puts out 38.19 PS and 51 Nm of torque.

Both cars get a 5-speed automated manual transmission though. In case of the Nano, the 5-speed AMT was built upon the 4-speed MT of the regular Nano, whereas Maruti's gearbox in the Alto K10 has always remained a 5-speed unit.

The Nano AMT actually weighs 10 kg more than the Alto K10 AMT. Hence, it is no surprise that the Alto K10 has a power-weight ratio nearly twice of the Nano AMT. The Alto K10 is also more fuel economical at 24.07 km/l while the Nano AMT delivers 21.9 km/l.

Thanks to its additional weight and smaller engine, the Nano GenX loses out to the Alto K10 in the power-weight ratio department.

On paper dimensions pitch the Alto K10 as a longer hatchback, both in overall length and wheelbase, however, the Nano edges out in the width and height department. The GenX Nano is also the first Nano to get a functional bootlid, which allows for 94 liters of space. Boot space of the Alto K10 is nearly double at 177 liters.

Finally, coming to the pricing, the Nano XMA has a price advantage of INR 1.26 lakhs compared to the Alto K10 AMT. Even the top-end XTA variant of the Nano is a full INR 1.06 lakhs cheaper than the Maruti.
