The Wagon R with Idling Stop is likely to return 2 km/l more than the standard model.

With this, Maruti will be the first manufacturer to offer a stop-start system on a mass-market hatchback. Mahindra offers this system, dubbed Micro Hybrid, on models like the Bolero, and the forthcoming S101 and U301 could also benefit from this technology.

Essentially, the system shuts off the engine when the car comes to a rest, and restarts the engine when the driver presses the clutch. As a result, the AC shuts down as well. However, the Idling Stop technology will come with a feature called Eco Cool wherein cool air will flow through the cabin even with the engine switched off thanks to a cooling storage device located in the AC unit.
