Will reportedly launch in China in September.

Auto Shanghai 2015 hosted the Chinese debut of the third generation Hyundai Tucson and the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid concept. The former, going by Chinese reports, will launch in September in the domestic market.

Hyundai Tucson

First unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March, the third-generation Tucson features the brand's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. Hyundai have made some changes to the car's looks giving it new grille, bumpers, lights and wheels.

While Hyundai did not unveil the interior, it is likely to be similar to the European version. Here the old 4-spoke steering wheel has been replaced by a new 3-spoke unit. The instrument cluster, dashboard, air-con vents, center console and door panels have also been redesigned.

Five engine options are offered internationally on the all-new Tucson range. The base 135 PS (133 hp) 1.6-liter GDI petrol engine is matched to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 176 PS (174 hp) 1.6-liter T-GDI petrol engine can be linked to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

The base 115 PS (113 hp) 1.7-liter CRDi turbodiesel engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. The larger 2.0-liter diesel engine can be had with two power outputs - 136 PS and 184 PS, and both can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). All engines are Euro 6-compliant.

The all-new Tucson is said to go into local production in China in September 2015.

Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid concept

The Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid concept is interestingly a diesel electric hybrid. The plug-in hybrid powertrain consists of the same 115 PS 1.7-liter turbodiesel unit from the standard model, and a 50 kW (67 hp) electric motor that is powered by a 10.7 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The combined output is rated at 180 hp and 474 Nm of torque. The electric motor powers the rear wheels, while the diesel engine powers the front wheels. This allows keeping the power flow variable as per the driving situation - front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Pure-electric driving range after full-charge is rated at 50 km, while CO2 emissions is less than 48 g/km.
