It goes without saying that I’m a huge petrolhead and can apparently convert all my driving emotions into words you can read.

Total output of 1500-plus hp; capable of 0-400 km/h in less than 20 seconds.

Accompanying the track focused Koenigsegg Agera RS is the all new Koenigsegg Regera, which is Swedish for “to reign”. With blinding quick numbers and opulent luxury in tow, the name Regera could not have been any more appropriate.

The design looks unlike any other Koenigsegg. The front end of the Regera is more curvaceous and better sculpted, packing a new set of headlights that feature “constellation” LED DRLs. The lower fascia has a front splitter and carbon fiber elements flowing from the nose to both sides, large air intakes. The windscreen is identical to previous Koenigseggs, which is curved for an unmatched view of the surrounding.

Coming to the side, the Regera has the patented swivel doors invented by Koenigsegg founder, Christian von Koenigsegg, and a unique 20 inch carbon fiber rims. An added feature is the removable hard top for a roadster-like experience on sunny days. Similar to the front end, the rear is totally new; the wide width of the car gets narrow towards the rear, which features a single strip LED taillights, a prominent central exhaust housed in a carbon fiber rear diffuser, and an active rear wing.

Inside, the cabin is upholstered in the finest Scandinavian leather and exotic materials. One of Koenigsegg’s main focus was to improve the luxury standards of ultra high performance cars. The Regera features 8-way power adjustable memory foam sports seats, improved sound insulation, a 9-inch Neonate touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, 3G and WiFi connectivity. To record the owner’s driving style, the Regera comes with rear and cabin camera systems.

The most interesting aspect of the Koenigsegg Regera is the powertrain. The megacar is powered by a combination of a 1,100 hp 5.0-liter twin turbo V8 and 700 hp electric propulsion from two motors, which gets supply from a 9 kWh 720 Volt battery pack.

Power is sent through a new type of transmission invented by Koenigsegg themselves – called the Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD). It exhibits the characteristics of direct drive transmission, transferring a total output of over 1,500 hp and 2,000 Nm of torque to the rear wheels, which house the electric motors.

With a dry weight of only 1,420 kg (thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber) and a monstrous powertrain, the Regera produces very impressive figures. For starters, the sprint from 0-100 km/h takes only 2.8 seconds.

Once the Regera picks up speed, the KDD system goes all in – 150 to 250 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and a mind boggling time of 0-400 km/h in just 20 seconds. For comparison, a Porsche 918 Spyder does 0-300 km/h in 23 seconds. To put it in another perspective, the Koenigsegg Regera stays on tire slip (traction) limit during full acceleration in dry conditions.

Another interesting fact is that the Regera doesn’t have a reverse gear in the KDD system. Instead, the two electric motors help the car go reverse, similar to an EV.
