Update – The 2015 Audi Q7 has now been spotted in China by a Weibo user, where it will go on sale towards the end of the year. The Chinese media report that it will be strapped with 3.0L and 2.0L turbo petrol engines, alongside a plug-in hybrid.
Could be one of Audi India’s 10 launches for the year.
Audi’s second generation Q7 was caught testing undisguised in Mumbai by Carwale reader Mr. Arun Munagala.
The flagship SUV, which was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January, is available for pre-order in Europe, and deliveries commence in June. The starting price is set at 60,900 Euros (INR 40.64 lakhs) for the diesel and 62,900 Euros (INR 41.97 lakhs) for the petrol.
Audi’s new full-size luxury SUV stands on the second generation MLB platform, which uses high-strength steel and aluminium, thus making the car 325 kg lighter than the outgoing model. It measures 5.05 metres in length, 1.97 meters in width 1.74 meters in height and 2.99 meters in wheelbase.
As of now, only two engines will be introduced, both 3.0-liter V6 units. The petrol engine generates 333 hp and 440 Nm of max torque while the diesel motor puts out 272 hp and 600 Nm of max torque. Audi claims that, enhanced by the overall weight loss, the diesel variant is about 26 percent more efficient, and the petrol variant 23 percent more efficient, than the current model. Both engines come with the standard 8-speed DSG automatic transmission and Quattro AWD system.
A report last month indicated that Audi is working on a high-performance RS version of the Q7. It is also developing an e-tron plug-in hybrid Q7 with a combined output up to 367 bhp and 700 Nm of torque, which premiered at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and is scheduled to launch in the UK by the year end.
The Indian launch is expected by the end of this year. The new Q7 would be assembled at Audi India’s Aurangabad facility, perhaps following the CBU-route launch edition.
