Hyundai i10 global sales tops 2 million units - Report

Nearly 1.89 million sold in India.

South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has announced that cumulative global sales of the i10 has crossed the 2 million mark, 7 years after the model made its world debut in India. This is the first time that a non-Korean spec product from Hyundai has crossed the milestone.

Hyundai managed to sell almost 1.89 million units in India since its launch in 2007.

Being a product developed for the Indian market, Hyundai managed to sell almost 1.89 million units in India only. Building upon the ethos of the Santro, the i10 was widely accepted thanks to its fuel efficient range of engines, compact footprint and better design in its time.

The European spec 2nd gen Hyundai i10 launched in 2013 differed in design and dimensions, and its production was shifted to Turkey.

With the introduction of the second gen i10 in 2013, Hyundai moved European production of the i10 to its Turkey-based plant, with design changes favouring the European usage and style. In India, the new model was launched with a longer wheelbase and rear AC vent, and for the first time with a diesel option, followed by a sedan variant, Xcent, in 2014. The first gen i10 was retained in the Indian lineup.

Hyundai is currently selling the Grand i10 and its sedan derivative Xcent in India, alongside the i10.

Hyundai exports the i10 to LHD and RHD markets across the world, and late last year began shipping out the Xcent. Along with Kia Motors, Hyundai Motors is the world's fifth-largest auto conglomerate, selling a combined 8 million vehicles last year.
