Skoda considering compact crossover for 2017 – Report
Aravind Jayachandran, It goes without saying that I'm a huge petrolhead and can apparently convert all my driving emotions into words you can read.
Reportedly based on MQB platform.
Skoda is reportedly working on a sub-compact crossover that is expected to break cover in 2017. According to French website Auto Moto, the upcoming model will be the third crossover/SUV in their future lineup, others being the Yeti (which Skoda will continue producing) and a seven seater crossover expected to debut in 2016.
The B-Segment crossover will be based on the MQB platform that also underpins the latest Octavia, and feature design elements inspired by the VisionC concept. Chances are high that it could share its platform with a future VW compact SUV as well.
Power will be sourced from a range of economical three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Unlike the Yeti however, the engines will power the front-wheels only, with no available option of an all-wheel-drive system for top-end trims.
A compact SUV could just be the model Skoda needs for its Indian operations, as the brand is finding it difficult to carve up a decent market share with products like the Rapid, Octavia, Superb and Yeti.
Competitors: Renault Captur, Nissan Juke, Ford EcoSport, Ssangyong Tivoli, VW Taigun
Expected Launch Date: 2017 in Europe
