The Shelby GT350R Mustang marks its world premiere at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (2015 NAIAS). Based on the new Mustang, the company claims it to be the 'most track capable production Mustang ever built'. Later this year, the car will launch in the U.S.A. and Canada.

Powering the Shelby GT350R is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ford has ever built, and the first V8 from the Blue Oval to feature a flat-plane crankshaft. The 5.2-liter V8 makes more than 500 bhp and 542 Nm of torque, and uses a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited slip Torsen differential.

A new hood vent, diffusor, vented wheel wells, side skirts, front splitter and a carbon fiber rear wing are claimed to enhance the aerodynamics of the pony car. Not only that, the GT350R also gets 19-inch carbon fiber wheels as standard.

Further weight saving comes from the removal of the AC, rear seats, stereo system, emergency tire sealer and inflator and reverse camera. Thus, engineers have achieved weight savings of 59 kg compared to the Shelby GT350 Track Pack.
