Land Rover Discovery Sport SVR variant unlikely to be made - Report

But high performance variants likely to come.

An SVR verison of the new, India-bound Land Rover Discovery Sport is unlikely to be made, Land Rover programme chief Murray Dietsch, told Motoring.com.au. With that established, he continued that performance variants will be added to the line up.

JLR's Special Operations, headed by John Edwards, launched last year with the the Range Rover Sport SVR. Dietsch indicates that Special Operations is likely to work on specific segments, and a Discovery Sport SVR maybe too expensive for what it is.

The vehicle will instead be offered with larger petrol or diesel options so as to offer better performance. With the Audi SQ5 in place already and the BMW X3 and X4 offering the larger 300+ hp 3-liter six-cylinder petrol engine, it won't hurt LR to test out a higher-spec variant.

Range Rover Sport SVR at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show front — The Range Rover Sport SVR boasts of a max power of 550 hp among other performance-related updates.

The Discovery Sport is the first member from the new Land Rover Discovery family, and will replace the Freelander 2. According to a recent report, the car will be made available in India with the 2.2-litre diesel engine, in two states of tune: 147 hp and 187 hp - as a CKD, and launch in August.
