IAB Report - Maruti recalls 3,796 units of Ciaz for clutch problem

Only manual variants affected. 

The recently-launched Maruti Ciaz has been recalled for a potential problem with its clutch, Maruti Suzuki said in a statement. The company will recall 3,796 units of the Ciaz with manual transmission that were manufactured until November 7, 2014.

Dealerships have already begun contacting affected customers, and the faulty part will be replaced free of cost if necessary. In addition, owners can also check if their car is among the affected lot by entering the chassis number on a special microsite that has been setup on Maruti's website.

The Ciaz comes with a 5-speed manual transmission in petrol and diesel guises. The petrol is also available with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Ciaz petrol is powered by a 1.4-liter K-Series petrol engine while the diesel gets a 1.3-liter Multijet engine.

Even as the initial batch of cars are recalled, Maruti is working on introducing new variants of the sedan early next year. A top-end Z+ with Maruti's SmartPlay infotainment system, and a sporty RS variants are in the pipeline.

Full month sales for the Ciaz stood at 5,232 units for November 2014, a decline from the 6,345 units sold in October 2014.
