Maruti to sell record 1.148 million cars this year - Report

As 2014 comes to an end, India's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki, says it would be closing this year with sales of 11,48,000 vehicles, its highest till date. The previous record was in 2010 when Maruti sold 10,60,000 vehicles.

Other numbers are looking equally good for the manufacturer. Despite not-so-favorable market conditions, sales are projected to increase by 13 percent compared to 2013 and Maruti's overall market share is at an all-time high of 45 percent.

R S Kalsi, executive director of Maruti Suzuki for Marketing and Sales, said that the company expects India's passenger vehicle sales to increase by 5 percent in the next fiscal year.

This year, Maruti launched models like the Ciaz mid-size sedan, the new Alto K10 with an automated manual transmission (AMT), the Celerio with AMT and an updated Swift which is 10 percent more fuel economical than the previous model.

Going forth, Maruti will be hiking prices across the range by 2-4 percent effective January 2015. The car maker also plans to launch several products next year including the S-Cross crossover, the YRA (codename) premium hatchback, a new LCV (codenamed Y9T) and updates for the Dzire and Ertiga.
