Lada Priora AMT goes on sale – Russia
Nithyanandh K, As a toddler, those wheeled machinery fascinated me even before I knew what they’re called as! So here I'm, petrolhead by birth, Mechanical engineer by qualification and automotive reporter by profession!
More models to get AMT in the future.
The Lada Priora AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) has been launched in Russia at 395,000 Rubles (INR 4.6 lakhs). The sedan which is set to be succeeded by the Vesta next year has also received a minor facelift earlier this year.
The Priora AMT retains the gear ratios and basic construction of its existing 5-speed manual gearbox. The AMT kit and software are supplied by transmission specialist ZF. The AMT unit continues to harness power from the 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which is tuned to deliver 98 bhp.
The option of AMT would help boost the aging sedan’s appeal as an easy-to-use city car. Mr. Denis Petrunin, vice president of sales and marketing, AvtoVAZ has revealed that the automated gearbox would be made available in other Ladas in the future, including the upcoming Vesta sedan.
The Vesta which was showcased in the form of a near production concept at the Moscow Motor Show 2014 is a huge leap forward from the Priora in terms of exterior, interior and hardware. The B-segment sedan is expected to feature a Renault-sourced engine.
