As per Euro NCAP guidelines, the frontal impact test was conducted at 64 km/h with a 40 percent overlap on a deformable barrier. The side impact test was carried out with a barrier hitting the driver side door at 50 km/h.

The Celerio in Europe will come with dual front airbags, ABS, ESP and front side airbags as standard.

The model that was tested was powered by the 1.0-liter K-Series engine (a DualJet engine will also be seen on the European model), and was equipped with standard features like dual front airbags, ABS, front side airbags and ESP (the latter two of which are not offered on the Indian model even as optional extras).

For large part, the testing body says that the Celerio offered adequate protection, but the car got a 'Poor' for whiplash protection for rear seat passengers. The Celerio did not qualify for the side pole test, as a head protecting side-impact airbag is optional and not standard. The Euro NCAP only tests the standard features on a car.

To truly understand the Celerio's safety from an Indian perspective, a comparable crash test of the India-made car would need to be carried out. As with the case of the Swift, the Global NCAP testing agency revealed that the crash worthiness of the India-made car was inferior to that of the European model built in Hungary.
