The Mahindra P601 light commercial vehicle continues testing in and around Chennai where the company has its R&D centre and here are the latest spyshots brought to us by RushLane reader Mr. Ashok.

The P601 will slot below the Maxximo Plus.

Going by the size, the compact cargo carrier would be positioned between the Gio and Maxximo Plus with an expected payload capacity of 600 - 750 kg. Earlier spyshots suggest that the new LCV could be available in two wheelbases, suggesting that the payload range can be stretched close to the 1-tonne mark. The Tata mini truck range will be its primary rival.

The test mule has started featuring a production spec front fascia complete with elliptical headlamps and integrated blinkers. The interior which also appears production ready borrows heavily from the Maxximo. A dashboard-mounted gear lever is the salient feature.

Likely to be based on a new platform, the powertrain details of the P601 is under the wraps. A modified version of the Maxximo's 909 cc two-cylinder diesel engine or an all-new motor could be in the offing.
