IAB Report - 2015 Skoda Fabia (uncertain for India) engine lineup gives 17% more mileage

Skoda have announced the engine lineup for the upcoming new generation Fabia. In a gist, the manufacturer says that the hatchback has a 17 percent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the outgoing model. This comes partly thanks to the 65 kg weight loss on the car. In fact, the base variant of the Fabia will weigh only 980 kg.

Skoda will offer the Fabia with a choice of four petrol and three diesel engines, all complying to EU6 emission norms. Also, all engines will come with a start-stop system and kinetic energy recuperation system as standard. Transmission choices will include manual and DSG automatic gearboxes.

The petrol lineup will include the three-cylinder 1.0-liter MPI engine and the four-cylinder 1.2-liter TSI engine. Power outputs will range from 60 bhp to 110 bhp. The diesel engine range will be powered by a common three-cylinder direct-injection 1.4-liter engine in power states of 74 bhp and 103 bhp. The earlier 1.6-liter four-cylinder TDI engine is discontinued.

The new Fabia is 65 kg lighter than its predecessor which got discontinued in India.

Later next year, Skoda will launch the GreenLine Fabia which is powered by the 74 bhp TDI engine and comes with optimized low-rolling resistance tires to achieve 32.25 km/l and CO2 emissions of 82 g/km.

The new Fabia will have a European launch this year, but its Indian introduction continues to be a question mark. Skoda India say they're focused on segments of the Rapid and above for now.
