The Proton P2-30A global small car has been teased for the first time, in a video which sends out Hary Raya (Eid al-Fitr) wishes.

The video features the Malayasian automaker's significant cars in its history starting from the 1985 Proton Saga then moving on to the 1997 Satria GTi and the 2013 Suprima S, ending with a sneak preview of the P2-30A's headlamps with words that translate into "forward appearance".

The video indicates that the eagerly anticipated global hatchback could make its world premiere in Malaysia on the day of Hary Raya, (July 28 or 29). As seen in the teaser, the headlamps are in line with our designer Shoeb's accurate rendering of the hatchback.

Rumored to be named the Proton Iriz, the P2-30A would eventually go on sale in several international markets in Asia and Europe and would rival established hatchbacks like the VW Up!, Hyundai i10 and Honda Brio.

The technical details are still scarce but expect a compact petrol engine displacing in the ballpark of 1.2-litres to be on duty, paired to a manual and an automatic gearbox. Being a global product, the new Proton hatchback would have standard safety equipment like ABS and airbags.

The development of the new model cost the manufacturer around RM300 million (INR 570 crores) hence the pricing is expected to be on the premium side. Proton has no plans to launch the P2-30A, or itself, in India.

Competitors: Honda Brio, Hyundai i10, VW Up!
