Report - Second gen Renault Koleos coming in 2016

Talking to CarAdvice, Renault Australia managing director Justin Hocevar has confirmed that Renault will develop the next generation of their SUV, the Renault Koleos.

The second generation Renault Koleos will sit on the Common Module Family (CMF) architecture developed by the Renault-Nissan alliance, and will be largely based on the 2014 Nissan X-Trail.

During its 6 year lifespan, Renault has updated the first-gen Koleos with two facelifts and new features to maintain its freshness in the market. With rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Mitsubishi Outlander already in their latest generation, it's high time that Renault commences work on a replacement if it wants to succeed in a highly competitive segment.

According to Hocevar, the second gen Renault will only be unveiled in 2016, further extending the life of the ageing model that failed spectacularly in the UK. The Koleos's largest market is China, and the five-seat crossover is badged as the Samsung QM5 in Korea.

With the Captur boosting Renault's image in the crossover segment, the French manufacturer hopes that its next gen Koleos will be a popular choice in its segment.

The Koleos facelift was launched in India this year, a little over two years after it launched.
