At the reveal of the CLS facelift last month, Mercedes-Benz confirmed that an estate derivative on the CLA Class will enter production. Called by the media as the CLA Shooting Brake, prototypes have been spotted several times in Dubai by Indian Autos Blog reader, Mr. Nitin.
The CLA Shooting Brake will become the fifth member on the A Class family (MFA platform) which consists of the A Class, B Class, CLA and GLA, the last of which launches in India this year. The Shooting Brake is expected to enter production in early 2015, and would be positioned below the new C Class estate.
Power for the CLA Shooting Brake is expected to come from the same crop of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines seen on the CLA Class. A high-performance AMG variant of the estate could also launch, the report says.
It is unlikely for Mercedes to launch the CLA Shooting Brake in India given that the market for estates doesn't exist. Instead, Mercedes will launch the CLA sedan in the country this year with the CLA 45 AMG. The CLA 45 was brought to the Auto Expo this year and is expected to go on sale this month. Regular variants of the CLA will launch sometime next year.
